The goal of this project is to create a high quality, affordable housing with a courtyard, taking into consideration the energy balance, resident community and comfort in a residential unit.
Electricity is generated by PV panels and wind turbines.
Three different types of PV panels are installed in this building:
- Dye-sensitized solar cells on the exterior wall to harmonize with neighboring brown buildings.
- Crystalline silicon solar cells on the roof
- Transparent solar cells on the louvers above and side of the courtyard.
10 wind turbines are located on the roof at required intervals.
These two energy sources will create 79% of the energy used in this building.
Air temperature is controlled with pre-heating and pre-cooling in public zones and with heating and cooling in each residential unit.
This building has three privacy levels, residential unit as private space, terraces facing courtyard in each floor as semi public spaces and a community kitchen and laundry integrated into the courtyard as public spaces.
Each residential unit has minimum of 3 hours solar access all year. Cross ventilation is guaranteed by openings in two directions. The natural light reflected from the terrace's wide balustrade helps the artificial lighting in the interior.
