Guilherme House
This work is a rehabilitation of an old house in city centre of Porto. This house consists of two stories, the first floor and a garret, correspond to necessity of two clients, mother and a daughter.
In the downstairs, the original elements that characterize the age of this house like door, skylight, ceiling ornamentations are maintained. All of divisions of rooms are conserved, except one between the living room and the kitchen. This intervention provides fluid and direct communication that haven’t existed between two rooms. An auxiliary island kitchen was installed, which created one integrated space.
In the upstairs, the garret, structural elements, especially granite wall, wooden beam of roof and a cylinder of skylight to illuminate a stair in down stair were maintained. This attic floor was divided into two main areas, bedroom and living room, which could complement each other due to the large sliding door that makes the connection between them. Also on this floor there are small spaces of support like the bath room, a dressing room and a small storage.
This intervention seeks to comply with the characteristics and style of the House. According to this method, dialogs between new elements and existing elements are created.
