Competition - Desafios Urbanos 2012

This proposal is based on the "rediscovery" of the essence of the place.
The proposal site is former Cavalinho factory, a fabric factory located in Guimarães city. This city was chosen for European Capital of Culture 2012. In this context, we proposed a place of creation where people can enjoy their creation in several areas.
The wide spaces, the striking concrete and iron structure, the simplicity of the buildings, are its formal basis and consequently the functional distribution. The three parts of this expose the programmatic distribution, maintaining its longitudinal and parallel composition:
Avenue - Warehouse 1 - Central Corridor - Warehouse 2 - Forest Area.
It was considered that intervention in this building could not be based on the addition of new volumes, since the program already fits the existing area. Besides, full conservation of the buildings is not defended in this circumstance.
This approach tries to expose the "heritage" and the design of the place / city, accessible for common citizen.
