Competition - Finca project

This is an accommodation facility for immigrant workers in a coffee farm in Mexico near the border to Guatemala.
It was necessary to design 40 single units, 6 family units, and terraces with stove to heat up meal. The aim to improve the quality of living and insure the privacy and security with guarantee the community of residents.

The building cost was quite limited and the site was deep inside the mountain. To achieve the goal in this condition, simple method construction with accessible material was chosen.
Compressed earth was used for wall, light metal plate was applied for roof, and the door was made from bamboo. Workers can build by themselves when it is off harvest. 
 
In spite of high density residence, cross ventilation in each unit and reuse of rain water was secured by the design of the roof.
