Competition - Antartica Station 2013

The "Comandante Ferraz Antarctic Station" competition objective was to create a Brazilian Research Station in the Antarctic. Located in the Keller Peninsula, the station will conduct research on the natural phenomenon of the glacier environment and study its impact on the world. The station should become a benchmark in terms of technology, constructive and spatially. 
The project aims to minimize the environmental impact in order to keep it as less "contaminated" as possible for the research teams. In order to do that, the buildings are raised and only supported by four points. The compact shape and "0" shape provides a more fluid and continuous circulation inside and at the same time defines a central patio that allows visual communication between the residents. 
The elevated structure on stilts is defined by  large wooden trusses that make the building structure. It creates a modular, sustainable and easy to assemble system, which allows to reduce the risk of human and natural errors,  ensuring the timely construction.
