Competition - Fine Arts University, Bratislava
The objective of this competition was to unite the facilities of the Universities of Fine Arts in Bratislava into a single complex, in order to provide study and work environments along with accommodation, food and leisure areas.
The land where the existing building is located is on a hillside overlooking the rest of the city.
The main idea of the proposal presented was to build rationally starting from the base module of the existing building. In this way, the existing building was extended longitudinally, continuing its volumetric logic, and where the workshops and workshop rooms were located. At ground floor level, the space is permeable and transparent, connected to the outdoor areas that surround it. On the 1st and 2nd floors are the rooms for the different art courses, arranged in a logic of multi functional, open and versatile spaces, facilitating and providing the school's transdisciplinar atmosphere and spirit. On the top 2 floors are student accommodation and the canteen.
Regarding the 2nd phase of the competition, the proposal materializes with an independent volume located to the north, following the same logic as the base module, organized in such a way as to benefit from natural light, air circulation and views from the upper floors.
The interstitial spaces that appear between these modules give rise to flexible spaces with different characteristics and qualities, which can be used by both students and visitors in different ways: studying, relaxing, exhibiting, etc.
